Parent involvement is valued highly at HPMS. HPMS staff recognizes that parents are the primary and most significant teachers in each child’s life– partnership between parents and HPMS is critical! Because of the value placed on our relationship with you as well as with your child, parents are often invited in to participate in classroom events, share in performances and presentations, and simply to read books, sing songs and share the day. If you would like to visit your child’s classroom, please contact your child’s teacher to work out the details– we look forward to seeing you around the building!
To maintain communication with our growing body of families, Parent Representatives, who serve as liaisons between classroom families and the school, serve a very important role. Parent Reps share ideas and feedback, organize volunteers for school and classroom events, and often serve as mentors to new families. We could not serve our community as well as we do without them.
HPMS offers a variety of evening events to help parents better understand Montessori philosophy and how it is articulated in their child’s classroom and working life. Formats vary according to topic, and may include guest speakers, lecture, informal coffee chats, hands-on workshops, student presentations, panel conversations, social gatherings and more. Recent topics include: Work With Your Child Night, Literacy and Writers’ Workshop, Third-Level Students in Early Childhood, The Social Curriculum with Dr. Eileen Kennedy-Moore, The Wonder of the Work Series (Practical Life, Art and Language; Sensorial and Math; Science, Geography, and a Culture of Peace), Montessori Philosophy; Montessori in the Home; Montessori Elementary, and more. Social events include our annual Ice Cream Social in the fall, Literacy Night, Movie Nights, and our annual HPMS Potluck Picnic in the park each spring. Grandparents and other caregivers for our children are of course welcome to attend these events as well!
