Language

HomophonesLanguage is also a study of relationships—between symbols and ideas that may or may not be visible—and can be tremendously abstract. Montessori language, like Montessori mathematics, employs concrete materials and activities to help children develop pre-literate skills, phonemic awareness, fine-motor writing skills, encoding, decoding and sight-word recognition, sentence-building and spelling, mechanical and creative experience of writing and reading, enjoyment of literature and storytelling, and use of language to express ideas both orally and through symbols (pictures, letters, and beyond). Additionally, at HPMS, we further enrich our curriculum through specialized Literacy and Writers’ Workshop groups for children aged 5 and up.
