Each year, our Upper Elementary and Middle School students step bravely into the spotlight for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Oratory Competition, and this year was no exception. Inspired by the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., students delivered speeches that reflected not only careful research, but also deep personal conviction. To stand before an audience and speak with clarity and courage is no small task, and we are incredibly proud of every student who chose to participate: Liam, Vihaan, Liliana, and Ethan we are so impressed by you!
In true Montessori fashion, this experience was about far more than public speaking. Rooted in the philosophy of Maria Montessori, our approach to education encourages students to find their voice, refine their ideas, and engage meaningfully with the world around them. The oratory competition offered a powerful opportunity for students to connect history to the present moment, reflect on issues of justice and equality, and express their own hopes for a more peaceful future.
We are especially thrilled to congratulate Ethan Rodriguez on winning this year’s Middle School competition. This achievement reflects not only his astounding delivery, but also the courage to speak authentically and from the heart. The event, and our students’ participation in it, is a reminder that young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow—they are thoughtful, compassionate changemakers today.
At Hamilton Park Montessori School, our mission calls us to nurture students who are passionate in their pursuits, authentic to themselves, and connected to the world around them. The MLK Jr. Oratory Competition embodies all three. Our students pursued topics that mattered to them, spoke in their own voices, and engaged deeply with the enduring message of justice and peace. We celebrate every participant for taking this courageous step—and for reminding us that when children are trusted with meaningful work, they rise to meet it with wisdom and grace.
