Last month our very own HPMS Chess Team competed in the 2024 NJ State Elementary & Jr. High Chess Tournament. It was an exciting weekend filled with camaraderie, insightful play, and the opportunity to meet friends from other schools. Here are a few highlights from the weekend:
- Colin Stewart received 6th place out of 174 players in the 3rd-5th grade age group. Bravo, Colin!
- The HPMS 3rd-5th grade team received 6th place out of 34 teams. The HPMS 3rd-5th Grade Team includes: Colin Stewart, Nispriha Sharma, Tyler Schadeck, Silas Burrows, Benjamin Taha, and Syon Kaul. All of these HPMS players (except for Colin) are in the 4th grade, so they have one more year to play in the 3rd-5th grade age bracket. Colin will move up to the Middle School age bracket next year. Well done, team!
- The HPMS K-2nd grade team received 10th place out of 17 teams. All of these HPMS players are in the 2nd grade, so they will move up to the 3rd-5th grade age bracket next year. The HPMS K-2nd Grade Team includes: Akash Anant, Mysha Singhai, Bobby Burton, Luca Gregg, Gabriel Taha, and Elan Kumar (out sick on Sunday). What an accomplishment for this group as it was the first time most of them played in a tournament. Congratulations!
