A Week of Community and Collaboration

Last week, in honor of Montessori Education Week we reflected on the characteristics of an HPMS graduate. So this week, we thought we’d highlight a few of those that we’ve seen on our campuses recently. Particularly: Collaboration, Compassion, and Curiosity & Creativity.

Collaboration: Odyssey of the Mind

Last weekend UE friends participated in the Odyssey of the Mind competition — with one HPMS team placing 3rd. Congrats, friends!

This year’s problems featured everything from creating a deep space structure for supporting hundreds of pounds to a performance about a rock band on an unexpected detour. We’re so proud of our OM friends for their teamwork.

A special thank you and shoutout to Ms. Ana for her guidance and help with the OM competition.

Compassion: HPMS Cares

As part of HPMS Cares week, Upper Elementary School friends created Blessing Bags, filled with toiletry and self-care items, to be donated to people at local homeless shelters.

The generous HPMS PA donated all the items. We were thrilled to be a part of this wonderful moment of caring and community.

Curiosity & Creativity: Parker Looks Up

Transformed by seeing the portrait of Michelle Obama in the National Gallery, Parker Looks Up is a moving story about how a seemingly ordinary trip becomes an extraordinary and life-changing visit.

Inspired by reading this book, friends in Orange Room created their own artwork to celebrate Black History Month as well as their own hopes and dreams for the future.

Their beautiful illustrations showcase the inherent wonder and creativity of all our friends here at HPMS.
